Protein in the morning
Here’s what I eat in the morning. Firstly, let’s talk about WHEN I eat it. As any sports physiologist will tell you, exercise for fat loss is most effective in the morning. Your body has just been fasting all night long while you were sleeping, and there’s not much glucose in your blood stream to use for energy. So, if you exercise at moderate stress levels, your body will use the fat reserves to create the necessary energy. Consequence: You burn fat! Be warned though, if you exercise too hard, you’ll rather eat up the protein of your muscles!
So, what I do is to have no breakfast at all before I exercise in the morning, and then I’ll drink a protein shake right after to replenish my nitrogen balance. For good measure, I add about 10 ml of flax seed oil (also known as linseed oil) to my mix to add the all-important essential fatty acids (EFA). I mix about 40 g of protein with a 50/50 skim milk/water mix, add 2 ice cubes, the said flax seed oil, and put it in the blender. Those muscley types of you that want to save your precious muscle mass - eat some protein right before any resistance exercise so you body doesn’t even think of using that precious muscle tissue for food!
So how come MrTubby is so knowledgeable when it comes to nutrition and exercise and all that? Well, believe it or not, before MrTubby became prolific on the internet, he was working as a research scientist at a hospital. And you may have guessed it, MrTubby has a degree in physiology. A PhD even! With distinction! Yes, all these smarts at his disposal and yet MrTubby is MrTubby and that truly is a shame.
