We’ve started!

Today I made good of my decision to begin living a more active live. I did a little bit of bench presses (using only 30 kg) and a little bit of dumbell curls. I am saying “a little bit” because I really didn’t want to overdo it. Then Saggybutt and I went for a little morning powerwalk. It took me some bribing (bringing coffee to her bed) and other means of persuasion (”look it’s such a sunny day, and you want to get fit too, right”) but eventually there she was, ready to join me in our morning exercise.

We have our own little route, out through the backroads, and over to the park. There is a meandering paved path that follows parallel to the mainroad, yet in enough distance from it to shield you from the traffic noise and the exhaust fumes. I am amazed how other morning joggers and cyclists greet you with a friendly smile and nod, as if acknowledging that you belong to the secret brotherhood of morning tubsters whose mantra is “yes I too have decided to do something about it”. I guess they welcome others because it makes you feel less like a lonesome wolf but more as if you’re doing some perfectly normal and reasonable.

It took us about 30 minutes with our powerwalk. To be honest, I didn’t quite break a sweat but Saggybutt was happy that we didn’t start with actual running. Saggybutt is so unfit, her little heart would jump straight out of her chest after only five minutes of jogging, but the fast walking she handles just fine. I didn’t complain about that too much, knowing fully well that I better start with mild exercise myself too. Overdoing it initially can be a real motivation killer if you’re all sore for days afterwards!
