Not a goal but a direction!
Allow me a brief foray into some philosophical aspects of my journey to say “goodbye” to MrTubby for good. Unlike in previous times, this time I don’t actually have a real goal. People typically have certain goals, like, lose 10 pounds, or lose 15 pounds before next summer… these are goals that are defined by certain final conditions. For example, the goal is reached when a certain body weight or body shape or waist circumference has been reached.
The problem is… what happens after you’ve reached your goal? Live happily ever after, now looking like a shining example of genetic perfection? I don’t think so! Like many others I’ve been there countless times, only to say “oh sh(*&, welcome back MrTubby!”. So, after a shortlived exhilaration of having reached the goal, it’s back to our old habits and before you know it, you’re back to square one.
I feel the only way to combat this is to say goodbye to crash diets, fad diets, or anything at all that you wouldn’t normally do for reasons of enjoyment. What if you could live an enjoyable life, not be overweight and unfit, and still get to eat pretty much what you want when you want it? There is an answer, and it lies in your determination for a direction, not a goal. A direction is a perpetual heading without the necessity of a final goal, whereas goals, even multiple ones, tend to be a shortlived affair.
This web site is testimony to my choice of a direction. One that provides a truly enjoyable, guilt-free, healthy and active life style without the pressures to having to lose weight in record time. MrTubby will take a hike, a slow one, but for a the very first time, when he goes, it will have been a truly joyable and satisfying experience all the way!
