Squats from hell

Today I started to add leg work to my weight lifting program. I started with the 40 kg barbell on my shoulders. I did 10 squats, and it was relatively easy, but man, when I put the weight down, I had a hard time staying conscious! Squats are an extreme exercise, they are taking so much out of your body, it’s amazing. Yes, I know, they are one of the most effective exercises one can do because they are using the biggest muscles of the body, but the neurological stress to the body is just … extreme. Words fail me.

So I did two sets of those squats from hell, and I had to sit down for two minutes after each set, nearly fainting. The heart is really being worked there. I find it really strange though how I have little trouble doing the 10 squats, but the moment I put the weight down I’m nearly keeling over. As if all the blood is in my leg muscles or something. That’s probably where it is, I guess.

The only thing that’s even more stressful to the body are lunges. They are the absolute worst and I think I’ll wait another week before I’ll attempt those. Not only are you working your leg muscles there, you’re also working literally dozens of other muscles in order to keep your balance! Your spinal chord and the part of the brain responsible for balance and muscle coordination are getting such as heavy neuronal firing, it’s not funny. Squats are little bit like that too, but the balance effect is just greater with lunges. I hate squats and I hate lunges, I always did, and that’s probably the reason why my legs are so thin.

But, I’ve decided I’ve got to change this, as I am so top heavy already anyway. It also makes sense. Any fat burning that I am doing is going to happen predominantly in the biggest muscle groups of the body. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, I gotta do squats in order to “devil up” my storky legs!
